The special features of jewellery labels

As their name suggests, jewellery labels, also known as decorative labels, are mainly used for jewellery and high-quality accessories such as glasses and watches. Basically, there are various types of jewellery labels, all of which are distinguished by their special shape: Their inscription field is double-sided, with a bar connecting the two sides. However, the type of adhesion, inscription and size of the decorative labels can differ greatly from one another.

Decorative labels and their advantages

High-quality jewellery and accessories made of gold, silver and similar materials should not be damaged by cheap labels. Therefore, decorative labels are the better choice. They are made in such a way that they do not scratch the materials of the valuable pieces or stick to them. Their shape fits the products perfectly and leaves no residue when removed.

As a rule, this is ensured by the fact that the fastening tab of the label can simply be cut. This removes the decorative label without leaving any residue. Adhesive is hardly ever used for decorative labels. Soiling due to adhesive residues is virtually impossible.

The thin bar for attaching a decorative label also allows it to be attached to very delicate objects. Small pieces of jewellery or fragile jewellery can thus also be labelled easily. Thanks to this design, the special labels allow delicate attachment, but at the same time offer a sufficiently large labelling field for product information.

The most important product information that can be found on decorative labels is:

  • Barcodes
  • Graphics and logos
  • Fonts with product name or material information

Decorative labels can be made of various materials. Many of the labels are also made of a UV-resistant material. The reason for this is that particularly beautiful pieces of jewellery are often displayed in shop windows where they are exposed to daylight.

The advantages of jewellery labels at a glance:

  • No residue, adhesive residue or damage to the goods
  • Easy to apply, even to delicate objects
  • Minimal use of adhesives
  • Sufficient space for all important product information
  • UV-resistant labels
  • Elegant designs available

The production of jewellery labels

Decorative labels can be produced using a so-called thermal transfer printing process. However, depending on the material and appearance of the labels, different processes are necessary. For example, some jewellers prefer labels that they can write on themselves. Accordingly, the material must be designed for this.

Jewellery labels in many variations

Labels especially for jewellery and high-quality accessories are available in numerous designs. Most labels are attached to the item of jewellery, but there are also some self-adhesive labels. There is also a wide variety of sizes. In addition to various labels, many manufacturers of these products also offer opening cards and cartridges.

From vinyl to luminous colours - the different materials for jewellery labels

A wide variety of materials are used for jewellery labels. The most common are:

  • PVC and vinyl
  • Paper
  • Luminous colours

Labels made of PVC or vinyl consist of an artificial film. This makes them waterproof and UV-resistant. These labels can even survive an ultrasonic bath without damage. All in all, these labels are among the most durable. They are usually printed with a thermal transfer printer and wax or resin ribbons.

Jewellery labels made of paper are less robust than artificial film but enable pleasant clean hand labelling. In addition, paper is the most environmentally friendly of all materials, as it is made from renewable raw materials. Many people also find the natural look of paper particularly charming. Retailers often also make the choice of labels dependent on appearance - after all, this is a point of focus for accessories. As an alternative to handwriting, paper labels can also be printed in a thermal transfer printer. The use of the direct thermal printer is also possible.

Jewellery labels made of fluorescent colours, like PVC or vinyl labels, are made of artificial film. They are characterised by their bright colour (e.g. red or yellow), which is often used to mark promotional prices or special offers.

Conclusion – jewellery labels to preserve beauty and material

Jewellery labels allow product information to be applied to fine jewellery and accessories without leaving unsightly residue. These special labels are designed to identify high quality products. Therefore, they are created in beautiful designs and are usually also manufactured to be UV light resistant. Compared to simple adhesive labels, which are used for many other products, these labels have decisive advantages.
